Innovative psychological support for artists

The word psychology literally means the study of the soul (from the Greek: ψῡ́χω, or psukhē)

Still Life

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.

In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.

There is no coming to consciousness without pain.

Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darkness of other people.

The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely.

Many people yearn for a rhythmic sacred experience to commune with others, the divine and their own psyches. As an artist, my work has been profoundly influenced by mythology, spiritual journeying and a deep delving into the unconscious. Now, as a psychotherapist in training, I strive to bring those elements together into a format to help support the psychological wellbeing of other artists. I am aware of how psychologically taxing a career in the arts is, and it saddens me that artists are exceedingly vulnerable to experiencing  mental health problems. I am also acutely aware of the issue of inaccessible psychological support. 'Communion' is an affordable, weekly, sacred support group – designed for artists to exchange their experiences in an atmosphere of empathy. Sessions are based on a shared dialogue around various psychological topics designed to provoke insight and awakening. Participants will receive a journal to process the journey. Afternoon tea and tasty nibbles are provided. Sessions last for 2hrs. Participation is €20. Places are limited.

Artists deal with a unique set of issues and face more rejection in a year than most people face in a lifetime. There is scarce logic or reason behind success or failure in the worlds of art and music.

My background in music gives me a unique insight into the burdens and nuances of the inner world of the artist, making me uniquely positioned to assist those in artistic spheres. Psychotherapy is not about fixing complicated feelings but instead becoming aware of them and learning to live with them. It is not about becoming better adapted to society but rather about becoming authentically individual. It is impossible to avoid all of life's suffering, but it is possible to learn to live with it. Psychotherapy is as much about acceptance as it is about change. Only when we learn to embrace reality as it is – including the existential fact of suffering – will we be free to make life more meaningful and creative. This is also the fundamental nature of spirituality which is, for me, an integral aspect of psychotherapy.
I am certified to offer group and individual counselling, and I am in the process of training to become a psychotherapist. I offer affordable psychodynamic counselling on a sliding scale to all artists and creatives. I also offer reduced-fee support to minorities whenever possible. Please fill in the contact form and I will get back to you. In person and online sessions are currently available.
